The Australian summer does not leave without a fight. But make it past the light showers and humid tantrums and you’ll be rewarded with easygoing, über-cool, tender-hearted autumn, a season that encourages comfort and layering. Yes, you can finally wear your favorite coat. And those woolen trousers. And stomp around the city in that pair of tall, sexy boots. There’s a smartness, a dignity to the kind of clothing we embrace in autumn that feels refreshing after three months spent sweating in sandals.
A change of season, naturally, calls for a reappraisal of your closet. What, then, are the trends we’ll be flocking to for autumn 2024? On a more practical note, consumers are becoming more conscious of their spending, whether that means saving up for an investment piece, or purchasing more affordable items—but not compromising on personal style. “Right now we are in a flux of escapism,” Kirby states. “Less–is-more when it comes to consumption, and she is also trying to be recession proof. So why can’t she feel good in the process?”
Here, we present our fashion forecast for autumn 2024.
