Accra Fashion Week CEO Nana Addo Tamakloe will represent Ghana at the BRICS+ Fashion Summit in Moscow from September 28 to 30. The event, officially recognized as part of the BRICS agenda, gathers industry experts from 109 countries throughout its history and hosts professionals from Asia, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe this season. This premier forum serves as a key meeting point for stakeholders from fast-growing economies, functioning as one of the industry’s top international gatherings where strategic partnerships are forged.

Connecting with Global Markets

Modern fashion industries face structural shifts in logistics routes and consumer behavior, making regional manufacturing hubs more important. The summit brings together leaders shaping these responses, including heads of national fashion weeks, manufacturers, and investors. For Ghana, the summit offers potential entry points into export networks spanning textile manufacturing to designer retail. Africa remains one of the key sourcing and manufacturing hubs of the global fashion industry, while a new generation of local brands across the continent is actively seeking distribution channels beyond domestic markets.

Participants aim to establish direct business connections with markets where manufacturing is expanding and demand for fashion products is increasing rapidly. The intensive business format allows attendees to find partners and distribution channels over just a few days, objectives that might otherwise require separate trips. Additionally, the concentration of meetings over just a few days enables participants to achieve objectives that might otherwise require a series of separate business trips and negotiations. For many attendees, the forum offers a practical platform for finding partners, suppliers, and diverse distribution channels without the logistical burden of traveling to multiple locations.

Tracks and Topics

The business program focuses on creativity, manufacturing and logistics, marketing and sales, and entrepreneurship and investment. Over 250 speakers will discuss supply chain restructuring, the use of cultural identity as a strategic asset, artificial intelligence in design and retail, and international expansion strategies for manufacturers. Within these tracks, industry leaders will explore the adoption of artificial intelligence in design and retail, the values shaping a new generation of consumers, and international expansion strategies for manufacturers.

Africa remains a key sourcing and manufacturing hub, while a new generation of local brands seeks distribution beyond domestic markets. This dynamic creates opportunities for African designers to access broader audiences and supply chains through such international forums. By engaging with these global networks, African creatives can leverage cultural identity as a strategic asset, positioning their brands within the rapidly changing market of international fashion commerce.

Accra Fashion Week’s Role

Nana Addo Tamakloe says, “BRICS+ Fashion Summit is a great innitiative and one of the few projects with the capacity of fully change the status quo when it comes to the fashion industry, We have seen over the years the event grow from introduction, to networking, to proposing practical resolutions and collaborations. And I believe we can expect to start seeing concrete changes around the world very soon from the project. The team should be highly commended and I hope to do Ghana justice by being present once again.”

The CEO of Accra Fashion Week joins other African leaders at the summit, including Mahlet Teklemariam of Hub of Africa Fashion Week, Mustafa Hassanali of Swahili Fashion Week (Tanzania), and Kalistu Ramos Mukoroli of MTC Windhoek Fashion Week (Namibia). The summit’s schedule coincides with Moscow Fashion Week, which runs from September 26 to October 1 and features more than 70 fashion shows by designers from Spain, Sri Lanka, Türkiye, the UK, Kazakhstan, China, Russia, and other nations. During the days of the BRICS+ Fashion Summit, the attention of the fashion industry will also shift to another significant event – Moscow Fashion Week, the premier platform for emerging designers, facilitating their effective integration into the international scene.
